Sexy Road Kill?

This description made me chuckle again. Authors sometimes painstakingly craft a person’s looks and attitudes. Here, Adams pulls it off in a sentence, but comparing two dissimilar things. As delicious as spoiled milk. As cuddly as a porcupine. As much sex appeal as a road accident. (Douglas’ description is better.)

Gargling … and fighting wolves.

I found myself trying to replicate this. What would that sound like? Gargling is humorous an casual. Fighting of wolves might involve a terrifying mix of animal and human howling. because of that juxtaposition, I loved the description. Plus it let me use juxtaposition in a blog post!

Beekeeper Next Door, a clean Christian Lit novel for Romantics

The Beekeeper Next Door is a clean and apprehensive romance; it’s also a casual stroll through small town life, where two adults with grown-up issues, like balancing finances and following their hearts, are trying to start anew. The back cover synopsis is concise and enticing, pulling readers in beautifully: “Facing his fear…Could give him the family he’s always wanted.” Simultaneously, the cover image makes a beeline toward the story’s foregone conclusion. We do know it’ll be a happy ending; Danielle Thomas’ bio indicates she writes happily-ever-afters. She’s good at it.  She weaves in a handful of well-written insights or descriptions, too.  Here are a couple:

“She glanced down at a finger and twisted an invisible ring.  With a jolt, Heath suspected she was widowed.”

“. . . [He] grabbed a trash bag to start on the coat closet.  When he opened it, a musty cloud of memories disguised as cedar and dust made his nose itch.”

If you enjoy the emotion of relationships intertwined with haunting memories and have a tendency to second-and-third-guess your own romantic instincts, this will be right up your alley. The Beekeeper Next Door is a sweet and comfortable read for those with an aversion to being stung by shocking surprises or terrifying twists.

“One of the quirkiest premises I’ve read for a young adult novel, and I’m all for it!”

As a a new author, I’ve begun to see the value of the review. Lots of people are reading Suddenly Rural Girl…and we want to give a HUGE thanks to those who are taking the time to add a review on Amazon, GoodReads, Barnes & Noble, Christianbooks.com, and more. It means a lot!

Here’s another one:

This is one of the quirkiest premises I’ve read for a young adult novel, and I’m all for it. The author is very skilled in using sensory descriptions and writing in the voice of a character in a specific setting, in this case, it’s easy to make assumptions about Dakota’s character, background, and mindset from the very first page.

The author is also very skilled at describing rural settings, making it come alive with vivid descriptions of what it’s like to be there, especially from the urban-born point of view, but also avoiding stereotypes for the characters in the story.
